getting an esim for china. my experience.

i didn't want to deal with a physical sim card. so i tried an esim.

i bought one online before my trip. used a company called holafly. there are others too.

cost was around 30 usd for 15 days. unlimited data but no phone number.

installation was easy. scan a qr code, follow the prompts. took 2 minutes.

the data worked when i arrived. speed was fine for maps, social media, and messaging.

one catch. google maps and instagram were blocked. i needed a vpn anyway.

also no local phone number. so i couldn't use didi (chinese uber). i used the alipay mini app instead.

would i use an esim again? yes for data only trips. but get a local sim if you need a phone number.
