i was worried about using the subway in shanghai. turned out to be very easy.

signs are in english and chinese. announcements are bilingual too.

the tickets are cheap. a ride costs about 50 cents. you can also use alipay to scan at the gate.

the trains are clean and on time. not crowded during off hours.

my hotel gave me a small subway map. that helped a lot.

i used the subway to go to the bund, yu garden, and century park. all easy.

if you're nervous, just avoid rush hour (8-9am and 5-7pm). other times it's fine.
