my 3 week solo trip to china. total cost breakdown.
just finished 3 weeks in china solo. wanted to share what i actually spent. not counting flight to china because that depends where you fly from.the route. beijing (4 days), xi'an (2 days), chengdu (3 days), guilin yangshuo (3 days), shanghai (4 days). plus travel days.
accommodation. stayed in hostels and budget hotels. average $12 a night. 21 nights total $252.
food. ate street food, cheap restaurants, sometimes nicer places. average $10 a day. 21 days $210.
transport within china. trains and 2 flights. beijing to xi'an high speed train $60. xi'an to chengdu train $50. chengdu to guilin flight $80. guilin to shanghai train $70. total $260.
attractions. forbidden city $8. great wall $15 (plus transport). terracotta warriors $20. pandas $12. li river cruise $40. total around $120.
local transport. subway and buses. maybe $30 total.
misc. sim card $15. vpn $12. souvenirs maybe $50.
total around $950 plus maybe $200 for random stuff. so $1150 ish.
i did not try to be super cheap. ate what i wanted. did most attractions. stayed in okay places.
you could do it for less if you eat street food only and skip some expensive attractions. or spend more if you want nicer hotels.
china is actually not expensive for a solo traveler. the transport is cheap and food is cheap. the flight to china is the biggest cost.
