Crowne Plaza Huailai
Crowne Plaza Huailai is a hybrid Crowne Plaza property combining family-friendly度假 and business conferences. The hotel is located in the core business district of Beijing North Ecological New City, with the Big Data Industrial Park just across the street. It neighbors Beijing’s Yanqing District, and it is only a 10-minute drive from the hotel into Beijing. The hotel has a spacious surface parking lot, making it very convenient to arrive by car. The main building has four floors and is laid out with an atrium plus east and west wings. The section connecting the two wings houses the hotel’s main entrance and lobby. This area is not on the ground floor but on the 3rd floor; to reach the 1st and 2nd floors, you need to pass through the lobby and take the elevator down.
At check-in, the base room I had booked was upgraded to a Deluxe Balcony Room, but they also made clear that an upgrade to a one-bedroom suite was not available, and they strictly enforced the group policy of choosing one between breakfast and a welcome gift—naturally, I chose breakfast. Later, however, the front desk noticed that it was my first stay and gave me both breakfast and a fruit plate.
The hotel has 318 guest rooms distributed across the east and west wings. The east wing is the standard room area, while the west wing is the deluxe room area. I ultimately stayed in a room in the west wing; the official website lists the area as 55 square meters. The room layout is similar to an open-plan junior suite and comes with an outdoor balcony. Through the balcony, guests can enjoy the small green garden in which the hotel is set. In terms of décor, it roughly represents the transitional style of the Crowne Plaza brand—different from traditional old-style business hotels, yet not entirely today’s signature modern business-travel style. It feels somewhere in between.
Breakfast is served at Yating Western Restaurant on the 1st floor, which is also Crowne Plaza Huailai’s all-day dining restaurant. To get to the restaurant, you can take the guest elevator on the west wing directly, or go down from the 3rd floor to the 1st floor via the spiral staircase. Yating Restaurant has a double-height design, with natural light streaming in through European-style scenic windows, so the dining environment has good daylight. At the spiral staircase there is a whole wall of teddy bear plushies—cuteness overload. The restaurant is spacious and can seat 150 people at the same time. Breakfast is served from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., and on weekends it is extended to 10:30 a.m.
The hotel is designed in a European castle style, with a white main building paired with pointed-roof towers and arched windows. Outside the drop-off area there is a Roman-style fountain. The lobby has a high-ceilinged design, and the crystal chandelier beneath the vaulted ceiling is impressive. Passing through the lobby, between the east and west guest room wings, there is a small green garden with a scenic lake where guests can relax. Through the corridor on the west side of the lobby, guests can reach the mahjong/card room, video game room, and billiards room—a great place for gatherings with family and friends.
